Recommended Podcast – Worldbuilder’s Anvil

I wanted to take a moment to talk about one of the better podcasts I’ve come across when learning the best way to build a fictional world. Hosted by Jeffery W. Ingram (@JefferyWIngram), Worldbuilder’s Anvil covers a variety of topics of interest for anyone looking to start creating a living, breathing, fictional world.

There are a lot of things that really need to be considered when crafting a high fantasy world, and Jeffery covers all of them. From language to religion to physics to rules of the universe, the podcast presents all of these topics in short, manageable episodes designed to get your creative juices flowing.

While coming up with an entirely new world, there are so many things to consider if you want to make it believable. Have you considered how your world has changed over the ages? What is the role of gods in the world, and how accurate are the religions that worship the gods? How many different races and clans are there? Are they peaceful? What real-life cultural influences will they carry? What about accents? What naming conventions are used by each group when naming towns and cities? What does each group value?

The more you think about the generalizations of the world, the more you will be able to fill your pages (or games) with exciting details that will be sure to attract lore junkies who will be chomping at the bit to know everything there is to know about the world. Jeffery W. Ingram will help you think about all these things, while maintaining a healthy balance between working on your world and staying rooted here in the real world.

Whether you’re writing an epic fantasy series of novels, creating a vast open world in a video game, or just building a playground for friends to play tabletop RPGs, this is one podcast you don’t want to miss.
